Gardens And Gardening

"A garden is mother nature's reward to us,  for spending time with her."

The Therapeutic Rewards Of A Garden

Gardens and gardening are therapeutic for the mind and the body. Long ago people did not have grocery stores to supply them with their every need. Families generally lived on farms and produced what they needed to take care of themselves. Granted they had to work harder than most people do today, but working together as a family kept them close together, and in better physical shape. It was therapeutic for everyone to see the rewards of their labor. In those days children were more apt to spend more time in the outdoors, as opposed to the many hours spent indoors, that they seem to do these days. It also gave children a better appreciation and understanding of what it took to provide and care for a family. Not to mention you didn't have to wonder what was in the food you were eating. It was grown by you, harvested by you, canned and preserved by you, so you knew what you were putting on the table and serving to your family. It saddens me that more and more farmlands and wildlife areas are being sold to make room for more and more big industries. "sigh"

The Perennial Gardener

Gardening is a joy whether you are a lover of annuals, biennials, half-hardy annuals, or the perennials there are many varieties to choose from. The annuals being plants that generally germinate, flower, and die all within one season. ( Only living longer than a year if they are prevented from setting seed. ) The perennials  living for more than two years, growing and blooming over the spring and summer seasons, going dormant every autumn and winter, only to return in the spring from their root-stock, rather than seeding themselves. The biennials being a flowering plant that takes two years to complete its life cycle. The first year growing leaves, stems, and roots. Entering into a period of dormancy through the colder winter season. Returning the following spring or summer, to flower and produce fruits, and seeds before it finally dies. The half-hardy annual  being a plant which is not devastated by early frost, and may, under the right conditions, come up a second or more time. Whatever your preference flowers will brighten your world. Gardening is a wonderful therapeutic way to get back to the basics, while spending time with Mother Nature. Enjoy your spring everyone!

Detested Little Dandelion

Before you buy into my stereo type, let me give you some facts without all of the hype. I am one of natures own tools and provide essentials to many,  nectar lovers such as bees, they love me a plenty. If you've a taste for salads, and greens as well, you might find you'd love me, only you can tell. If you fancy on occasion, to partake of some wine, I can provide you that too, all in good time. I'm also medicinal,  rich with vitamins galore. From B, C, and D, that you probably purchase from a store. So before you decide that I'm something to detest, try to keep all of this in mind and put my stereotype to rest.
