The Perennial Gardener

Gardening is a joy whether you are a lover of annuals, biennials, half-hardy annuals, or the perennials there are many varieties to choose from. The annuals being plants that generally germinate, flower, and die all within one season. ( Only living longer than a year if they are prevented from setting seed. ) The perennials  living for more than two years, growing and blooming over the spring and summer seasons, going dormant every autumn and winter, only to return in the spring from their root-stock, rather than seeding themselves. The biennials being a flowering plant that takes two years to complete its life cycle. The first year growing leaves, stems, and roots. Entering into a period of dormancy through the colder winter season. Returning the following spring or summer, to flower and produce fruits, and seeds before it finally dies. The half-hardy annual  being a plant which is not devastated by early frost, and may, under the right conditions, come up a second or more time. Whatever your preference flowers will brighten your world. Gardening is a wonderful therapeutic way to get back to the basics, while spending time with Mother Nature. Enjoy your spring everyone!
